Written and directed by Alex Garland (28 Days Later, Sunshine, Dredd), Ex Machina is an intense psychological thriller, played out in a love triangle between two men and a beautiful robot girl. Caleb (Domhnall Gleeson), a 24 year old coder at the world’s largest internet company, wins a competition to spend a week at a private mountain retreat belonging to Nathan (Oscar Isaac), the reclusive CEO of the company. But when Caleb arrives at the remote location he finds that he will have to participate in a strange and fascinating experiment in which he must interact with the world’s first true artificial intelligence, Ava (Alicia Vikander).

Awards

Ex Machina won Best Achievement in Visual Effects at the Academy Awards in 2016, where it was also nominated for Best Writing, Original Screenplay. The film was also nominated for 5 BAFTAs: Supporting Actress, Best Original Screenplay, Special Visual Effects, Outstanding Debut and the Alexander Korda Award for Best British Film.
