The film that turned Carrey from unknown commodity into box office gold is a hit-and-miss affair, although Ace Ventura held enough appeal to spawn the 1995 sequel When Nature Calls. Here, his unique animal-tracking skills are put to the test when he has to rescue the kidnapped mascot of the Miami Dolphins. Many of the jokes (Ace's amazing ability to talk through his anus, for example), wear thin quickly, and a pre-Friends Cox has little to do as the love interest, but there's enough here to make this an effective time-waster.
