Crazed tattooist Karl Kinsky (Dern) has designs on his model Maddy (Adams). So he drugs her, drags her back to his lair in New Jersey, and shows her his etchings – which are all over his body. While she's still under the influence, he transforms her into a work of art, needling curlicues into her skin – then he rapes her. Even all this pales into insignificance compared to the nastiness of the ending.
