James Stewart stars as a railroad man hired to secretly carry a payroll despite his suspected connections to outlaws
An angst ridden tattoo artist falls for a model and is convinced she should bear his 'mark' for the rest of her life
Crazed tattooist Karl Kinsky (Dern) has designs on his model Maddy (Adams). So he drugs her, drags her back to his lair in New Jersey, and shows her his etchings – which are all over his body. While she's still under the influence, he transforms her into a work of art, needling curlicues into her skin – then he rapes her. Even all this pales into insignificance compared to the nastiness of the ending.
Engagingly weird and provocative or silly, voyeuristic and sick – whatever your opinion you won't forget it quickly.
