Quirky Canadian offering about a naïve young farmgirl (Bujold) whose fanatical obsession with Jesus causes her to fall helplessly in love with a priest (Sutherland) and entice him away from his life of piety.
Although there's an underlying strand of romance, the main theme of the movie is the effect religious fixation can have on impressionable minds, and while the story is scrappy, leading to a hugely disappointing denouement, the central message is conveyed through some superb acting.
