Review
In 1960 Aimée played the title role in Lola. Nine years on, the same character and actress, now rather fatigued, is working in LA, trying to earn her fare back to France. She becomes romantically involved with Lockwood, a disenchanted young architect. Though Demy seems to have no ear for US speech patterns, he has a good eye for the striking image, particularly the more run down areas of Los Angeles, seen in pastel seediness. The director's attempts to repeat the magic of the previous film is undermined by the unfocused screenplay and a discussion about problems facing US youth today.
