Review
One of Cornfield's all-too-rare cinematic excursions, in which Brando is the blond, virile leader of a vicious gang of extortionists whose kidnapping of a young girl goes tragically wrong. It takes a rare talent to invest such a brutal story with a veneer of arty sophistication, but Cornfield manages to conjure up a dreamlike atmosphere in the most squalid of settings. Morino offers sterling support as Brando's junkie girlfriend and Boone is impressive as his sadistic sidekick. It's just a pity that the producers saw fit to shortchange the audience by suggesting the whole episode might have been a dream.
