As smooth operator Danny Ocean, Sinatra leads the gang of 11 World War II buddies who cook up a scheme to rob five Las Vegas casinos (The Flamingo, Sands, Desert Inn, Riviera, and Sahara) in one night - New Year's Eve. Their lead up to the big job seems to consist of frequenting bars, doing a bit of crooning and charming the ladies.
Featuring everybody who ever spent any time with the Pack - Martin, Davis, Lawford etc - plus a bunch of cameos - from the likes of MacLaine, Raft etc - the film boasts far too many characters for comfort (most people's roles are maddeningly small).
An off-the-scale testosterone level that makes it more of a boy's own adventure than anything. Considering the iconic status of all involved, this result in disappointing. Still, the suits are sharp and when the crime does eventually go down, it's superbly handled by veteran director Milestone.
