Review

No expense spared for this film based on the best-seller by James Norman Hall and Charles Nordhoff, who wrote Mutiny on the Bounty. Pacific island native Hall fights against the injustice of law when he is imprisoned for killing a white man in self-defence by island governor Massey. He makes his escape, desperate to reach his sweetheart (Lamour), but the brewing storm makes the trip increasingly perilous. With a budget of $2 million, director Ford and special-effects honcho James Basevi used nearly a quarter of the funds filming the spectacular hurricane climax (directed by uncredited Stuart Heisler).
