Still out

Friday 26 February
Let no poor devil speak of the last week of February 2010 as a week of limited genre choice in cinemas. We've got French whimsy in Micmacs, action nonsense with John Travolta, production line rom-com in Leap Year, a medical drama without much drama in it in Extraordinary Measures, personality-driven documentary from Michael Moore, government conspiracy horror in The Crazies and my personal pick of the week, a platinum-plated classic in the form of a BFI re-release of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. I should probably be recommending new films, in which case take your pick between finely crafted horror remake The Crazies and stirring stuff from rabble rouser Michael Moore in Capitalism: A Love Story, but if you've never seen Marilyn Monroe wiggling her way through Diamond's Are A Girl's Best Friend on the big screen, this re-release is the one to plump for.

If you're staying in this weekend, Film4's 80s Season concludes with Tom Cruise in Cocktail on Sunday evening. Meanwhile, if anybody is off to Sunday's Shepherd's Bush Secret Cinema event, I'll see you there.
